Been busy around here

I haven't posted much lately and have been kind of busy with other things. For one, the forum I run at The Mountain has been giving me a lot of problems and I have been spending time there trying to get it fixed.

Anyway, we finally got some rain here and it was a welcome relief on the long dry spell we had. It rained like a frog strangler last night for about an hour, probably got about 2 inches of rain just guesstimating it. We have rain in the forecast for the next week or so and we really need it. I have trees that have died from lack of rain. I don't think some of them will live even with rain that has started as it came way too late.

Just wanted to get on here for a few minutes and check in. You can find me spending more time Here until I get this problem fixed.

Bug Out Bag

Everybody needs a bug out bag for emergencies, fire, flood, storms, power outages, whatever could happen. When things happen, sometimes it's not feasible to put together what you need to spend a few days at another location. So planning ahead for such emergencies will increase your odds of surviving a situation beyond your control.

The Bug Out Bag is meant to be that bag which you can grab on your way out the door, for whatever emergency reason, the contents of which can keep you alive for three to seven days. Some readers who live in truly remote areas may feel that isn't long enough. Other readers in urban areas are going to have a hard time imagining circumstances wherein they'll have to live out of a single bag for three days.

How to survive in the woods for 3 days

I've never been lost for 3 days in the woods before. I have been turned around and dis-oriented for a few minutes back there though. I did spend 14 weeks once back in the boondocks while doing some specialized combat training and a lot of survival skills was taught. This would be some good info to know just in case one was to get lost for a while.

Ever been on a hike admiring the wild flowers, gazing up at the tips of the trees--and suddenly found yourself completely alone and lost? What would happen to you if you couldn't find your way back to safety? While being lost in the woods can be a frightening experience, surviving alone in the wild is generally a matter of common sense, patience, and wisely using the gifts that nature provides. All you need to survive for a few days is shelter, warmth, water, and food.

It's amazing what one has to believe, to believe in gun control:

That the more helpless you are the safer you are from criminals. That Washington DC's low murder rate of 69 per 100,000 is due to gun control, and Indianapolis' high murder rate of 9 per 100,000 is due to the lack of gun control. That "NYPD Blue" and "Miami Vice" are documentaries.

That an intruder will be incapacitated by tear gas or oven spray, but if shot with a .44 Magnum will get angry and kill you.

That firearms in the hands of private citizens are the gravest threat to world peace, and China, Pakistan and Korea can be trusted with nuclear weapons.

That Charlton Heston as president of the NRA is a shill who should be ignored, but Michael Douglas as a representative of Handgun Control, Inc. is an ambassador for peace who is entitled to an audience at the UN arms control summit.

That ordinary people, in the presence of guns, turn into slaughtering butchers, and revert to normal when the weapon is removed.

That the New England Journal of Medicine is filled with expert advice about guns, just like Guns and Ammo has some excellent treatises on heart surgery.

Your doctor could put you on no-gun list

This anti-gun zealot is like the energizer bunny, just keeps on and on with her never ending battle of trying to get rid of guns from the very people that she is supposed to be representing. This is nothing more than a vendetta that she is doing and should be kicked out of office for mis-using it.

Congress fast-tracks plan to let physicians ban weapons ownership. The proposal, H.R. 2640, was sponsored by U.S. Rep. Carolyn McCarthy, D-N.Y., in the wake of the April tragedy at Virginia Tech, when a gunman shot and killed more than 30 people, then killed himself.

Al-Qaida chatter warns of 'something spectacular

Israeli security agencies that monitor al-Qaida chatter are not aware of any credible threats indicating a radiological attack against New York or any other U.S. city. The sources said there has been some talk on al-Qaida forums that have proven reliable in the past of "something spectacular" against U.S. interests, but they said the analyzed chatter did not present a timetable or any specific threats and was missing indicators normally associated with credible threats. They said some of the intercepted chatter was conflicting.

The security officials were responding to a much-publicized warning on Friday by the Jerusalem-based DEBKAfile website citing Internet chatter suggesting al-Qaida would use trucks loaded with radioactive material or "dirty bombs" to attack New York. DEBKA also mentioned Los Angeles and Miami as possible targets for dirty bomb attacks.

Hot, dry and more hot and dry!

It’s been hot and dry here in my neck of the woods now for a couple of weeks. The high temperature for the last few days has been in the triple digits. Today the thermometer was showing 103 degrees and it’s been predicted to be at least 103 with one day this week will get to 104 degrees. The hot I can stand, but the dry is what’s making things worse. The area I live in shows the draught as being in the extreme range. There just hasn’t been much rain at all. The leaves on the trees are changing colors from lack of moisture and some trees have already died off from no moisture that the roots can pull out of the soil. Last week my air conditioning unit went on the blink and it took 3 days to get it back up and running as a new blower motor had to be ordered for it. We had to go outside in the heat to cool off as the house was like an oven.

I’ve been seeing a lot of snakes on the move looking for water, but that’s fairly common for them to do that when it gets as dry as it is now. I just hope I don’t step on one that I miss while walking as I’m sure they are agitated from lack of water. It looks like the Fall leaf colors won’t be too good in this area this year as it takes rain for the trees to put on a good leaf color. Without it, the leaves just turn brown, dry up and fall off.

The garden has finished all it can do as it is drying up and there’s no water to keep it going. We managed to get a fairly good harvest by pumping water out of the pond into irrigation lines on each row, but now the pond is about 7 to 8 feet low and I sure don’t want to pump anymore water out of it being that low. It’s not been that low since I lived here. Anyway, we have a lot of vegetables put up into the freezers and plenty of tomatoes canned, so we should be set for a couple of years on the garden food supply.

Send some rain this way!

Guide to Gun Belts

Very interesting article about gun belts and why you need one.

Gun belts are one of the last thing that shooters and concealed carry permit holders think about when carrying a gun. Like the name says, this site is about gun belts and how to choose the best one for your needs. Buying a gun belt sounds like a pretty simple task, right? Sometimes it is, and then sometimes it isn't. There's quite a bit of info on the Net from folks selling gun belts, but not much information about gun belts themselves. With the sheer number of leather makers and holster companies selling gun belts, all that sales information can make it somewhat overwhelming when you start doing research about gun belts. Now, couple that with the fact that there have to be at least 50 different companies making or selling gun belts, and you can see why choosing a gun belt can be a difficult choice. Hopefully, www.gun-belts.com will be able to help you with that choice. My goal is to provide you with good, solid info on gun belts and to answer questions and topics like:

*Do I really need a gun belt?
*The different types of gun belt materials and what works best for you
*Leather gun belts versus nylon gun belts
*What's the best width for a gun belt?
*How do I size for a gun belt?
*What's the best gun belt for the money?

We'll also be reviewing a number of gun belts that are currently offered by some of the more popular holster and gun belt makers in the industry. Along the way, I'll be making some recommendations about different gun belts based on personal experiences and user feedback from others.Hopefully, some of the information that is presented here will aid you when you start to narrow down your gun belt selections.

Mexico accused of framing border agent

If this doesn't make you want to blow a gasket, nothing will. This is totally insane that our government is allowing this to happen.

Clearly the Bush Administration is playing toady to the Mexican Government in the rash of recent prosecutions of Border Patrol Agents and Deputy Sheriffs who are doing their jobs. Question: If we are going to arrest these agents every time they use their weapons, why do we issue them weapons all?

North American Union launching August 20?

This may explain why President Bush is pushing the amnesty agenda.

If you have been scratching your head trying to figure out why President Bush has pushed so hard for amnesty, here's your "smoking gun."

An effort is underway to create a North American "framework" that will all but eliminate hard borders between Mexico, the U.S. and Canada. This "framework" includes a "trusted travelers" program that allows "citizens of North America" to move freely within the three countries.

No wonder the President is pushing amnesty!

On August 20-21, President Bush will join Mexican President Calderon and Canadian Prime Minister Harper for the second Security and Prosperity Partnership (SPP) summit.

The SPP is what many believe to be the beginnings of the infrastructure for the North American Union. The SPP's stated goal is to:

"...Consolidate our action into a North American
framework to confront security and economic challenges,
and promote the full potential of our people, addressing
disparities and increasing opportunities for all."

This tri-lateral agreement already has resulted in regulatory changes and open borders initiatives that clearly undermine our sovereignty. The SPP is the one touting the "trusted travelers" program to encourage migration of "citizens of North America."

Canada's Answer to Russia's Arctic Claims - A National Park?

I wonder what Russia's response would have been if another country stuck a flag up to the north of them and claimed it for themselves?

Canada's Prime Minister announced today that the government will add 5,400 square kilometres of land to the Nahanni National Park Reserve -- a world heritage site -- barring it from further development. The announcement, as well as military ones due later in the week, are meant to bolster the claim that Canada has sovereignty over the North.

Explosives Found Near Goose Creek, SC; FBI on Scene

Goose Creek, SC - Highway 1-76 near Goose Creek is shut down as police investigate. Berkeley County Selective Enforcement Team members pulled over two men of Middle Eastern descent. Goose Creek, South Carolina, is home to the Naval Weapons Station, which houses the U.S. Naval Consolidated Brig, a military prison where enemy combatants have been held.

The car was heading west, away from Goose Creek, when it was pulled over about 7 miles from the sprawling Navy facility, Lombard said.

The men 21-year-old Yousef Megahed and 24-year-old Ahmed Mohamed were pulled over Saturday evening during a routine traffic stop near Myers Road and Highway 176. Among the explosive devices found were igniters and fusers. Few details about the suspects are known at this time. They are believed to be students at a Florida college. They are of Middle Eastern descent and are not US citizens. Neither man has been charged, but charges are expected Monday.

Alabama bank hero dies in bulldozer accident

I had posted an article back in May about this hero when he thwarted a bank robbery by standing outside and holding the robber at bay with his pistol.

Here's the post that was posted in May about the bank robbery.
Concealed Handgun Permit Holder Helps Stop Robber: "Authorities say `good Samaritan' bought deputies time"

This is really sad that he's now been killed in an accident.
A man who helped thwart an armed robber's escape from a Bessemer bank in May died this morning in a bulldozer accident in western Jefferson County.

Christopher Lynn Chappell, 41, was accidentally killed at 8:15 a.m. by the bulldozer he was operating, said Jefferson County Sheriff's spokesman Sgt. Randy Christian.

It is believed he became entangled in the track of the bulldozer and was run over while working alone. Deputies and the Concord Fire Department responded, but Chappell was pronounced dead on the scene.

On May 14, Chappell was a customer at the Wachovia Bank on Ninth Avenue in Bessemer, when a gunman opened fire, killing bank employees Eva Hudson and Sheila McWaine Prevo. Two other bank employees, Anita Gordon and LaToya Freeman, were wounded.

Chappell, who was approaching the bank and heard the gunfire, got his gun from his vehicle and confronted the gunman as he was leaving, forcing him back inside and giving law officers time to respond.

13 percent of Alabama's bridges 'structurally deficient'

I took a look at some of the bridges listed in the link in my area and found that some I drive across all the time are listed as structurally deficient which makes you wonder if it might fall while driving across.

Thirteen percent of Alabama's bridges are classified by federal officials as structurally deficient, the same designation as the bridge that fell Wednesday in Minneapolis. There are 15,827 bridges in Alabama controlled by state, county and city governments, federal records show, and 2,101 of those are structurally deficient.

Dope dealer in Ramos-Compean case cops guilty plea

If there was ever any U.S. Attorney's that needed to be removed from office, this one from Texas has really over stepped his authority and seems to favor dope dealers so he can put our Border Patrol agents in prison for doing their job of protecting our border. This man, a buddy of Bush's has went to new lows when it comes to prosecuting people that are there for our protection and needs to be removed from office and slapped with a fine large enough that will make him understand reality.

Cipriano Ortiz-Hernandez, the stash house operator in the "second load" brought across the border by Osvaldo Aldrete-Davila in the Ramos and Compean case, pleaded guilty in El Paso on Tuesday to drug charges. The plea bargain allows prosecuting U.S. Attorney Johnny Sutton to continue withholding government investigative reports.....

Gun Control that went too far

This is an example of how the government can carry gun control to the extreme.

Federal authorities have agreed to tell a judge in Idaho that the "threat" from a gun-shop manager they had complained of probably wasn't anything significant, the manager has told WND.

According to a statement released by Ryan Horsley, manager of Red's Trading Post of Twin Falls, Idaho, his lawyers and lawyers with the U.S. Attorney's office met and "agreed to neutralize" the complaint that had been submitted by inspectors for the federal Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

"Although an apology would be nice, this will suffice," Horsley said. "We are pleased with this decision and with the response that we have received from supporters across the nation who have been following this case."
